Rapunzel's mother Gothel has never wanted Rapunzel to have any attention from men. She has raised Rapunzel to have a distrust of men and to stay away from them. Once again Gothel has decided to move them to a new place in order to keep Rapunzel to herself. On the road to Hagenheim the two are accosted by a couple of evil men. Sir Gerek comes to their rescue, but in the process he becomes injured and Rapunzel and her mother are forced to help him the rest of the way to Hagenheim.
Once the group arrives in Hagenheim Gothel dumps Sir Gerek at a monastery outside of Hagenheim and moves Rapunzel and herself into a small little cottage. All Rapunzel has ever wanted to learn was how to read. She asks one of the men at the monastery if someone there can teach her in exchange for her services in cleaning some of the rooms. When Sir Gerek is coerced into teaching her while he is laid up recovering Rapunzel is less than happy, but her desire to read outweighs her desire to please her mother or Sir Gerek.
When once again Gothel decides to move to another village Rapunzel has had enough and gets a job at Hagenheim castle. There she and Sir Gerek continue the friendship that was forged while Rapunzel was learning to read. But Gothel cannot let Rapunzel go and becomes part of a plot to take over the castle. Gothel will stop at nothing to keep Rapunzel to herself.
Even though Sir Gerek has determined to marry money he finds himself attached to Rapunzel. When she disappears he makes it his mission to find her. On his voyage he discovers a new trust in God and follows His leading to find Rapunzel wherever she may be and no matter how long it takes.
First off, yes, we have heard of Hagenheim castle before! One of the things I really liked about the story was that it crossed over into THE PRINCESS SPY. I thought the author did a good job of twining the two stories together. Another thing I enjoyed was the fairy tale retelling. There were enough differences to give the story a fresh twist but yet similar enough to maintain the integrity of the original fairy tale. The Spiritual aspect of the story was another favorite. Both Sir Gerek and Rapunzel needed to learn to trust in God instead of in their own power and abilities and plans. There were some frustrating moments for me in some of the behavior of the characters, but for the most part I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to readers that enjoy sweet fairy tale retellings.

Thy Rod And Thy Staff by Debbie Viguie
One problem with being caught up with the series...now I have to wait for the next installment instead of just moving on to the next book!
In book 12 of the Psalm 23 Mysteries Cindy has jury duty. A high-profile case has been moved to the city that Cindy lives in. Of course where Cindy is involved there has got to be mayhem and mischief. Cindy and her fellow jurors are sequestered for their own protection, but it seems that someone is determined to get to them. Rest assured though that Mark and Jeremiah are close by to keep an eye on Cindy and to keep any harm from coming to her or other members of the jury.
Outside of all of the courtroom drama Jeremiah and Cindy's drama is heating up as well. They knew they would probably have opposition when they announced their engagement. Sure enough they are both faced with the fact that not everyone is going to be happy that they are engaged since they come from two different religious backgrounds.
I was definitely a fan of the mystery in this installment. With so many different personalities of the jurors the author kept me guessing as to who was wrapped up in what. This was a solid mystery/suspense that managed to keep my interest throughout. As for Cindy and Jeremiah's relationship, I knew this was going to be a hurdle. I have to say I am hoping that they can work things out. After all that they have been through and considering the chemistry that they have, and the almost physical pain they experience when they are apart you can't help but want them to live happily ever after. Together. But all of that does not make two people being unequally yoked right. Soooo, what is going to happen next? Thy Rod And Thy Staff left us with a pretty big cliffhanger that is going to drive me crazy until the next installment comes out! As I've said in each review, if you haven't checked out this series yet I encourage you to do so!

Isle of Hope by Julie Lessman
If you are an avid reader of anything that author Julie Lessman has written like I am then ISLE OF HOPE is a must read for you!
Lacey Carmichael and Jack O'Bryan were in love several years ago. Lacey was a wild child constantly pushing all of her father's buttons and tempting her boyfriend Jack. Jack was a good boy heading for seminary. When circumstances cause Lacey to leave town Jack is heartbroken. Fast forward 8 years and Lacey is returning to Isle of Hope a changed woman.
Lacey's newfound faith in the Lord has prompted her to make amends with several people from her past, namely her father, ex-boyfriend Jack and her best friend Cat. Jack has now become a wild child himself. Fresh out of medical school he's enjoying the attention from all of the nurses and determined to play the field. He is less than happy to see Lacey back in Isle of Hope.
Lacey's relationship with her father is the hardest one to crack. After all, to make amends you actually need to talk to the person and Lacey's father has no desire to talk with Lacey. Over the years Ben has become a bitter man determined to cut his feelings and life off from those around him. Known at the hospital that he works at as Dr. Doom, Ben works hard to live up to that name. Once friends and neighbors with Jack's family, Ben has erected a barrier between the two homes. Tess has had enough of Ben's hermit ways. Tempting him with monster cookies, Tess worms her way into Ben's life. Between Lacey and Tess will they be able to show Ben and Jack that forgiveness really will set you free?
Oh my goodness! Where to start? Author Julie Lessman knows how to play the emotions of the reader. I find that her characters can make me laugh over some snarky dialogue and then rip out my heart and have me weeping like a little girl over a poignant scene of forgiveness or declaration of love. ISLE OF HOPE had a sub-story between Ben and Tess that I absolutely loved. I found myself being reminded of Cait and Logan in Julie's other series The Heart of San Francisco.
ISLE OF HOPE has a much more blatant spiritual aspect to it that to me added so much more depth to the story. I loved the scenes of forgiveness, they were heart-rending and so believable. I also appreciated the reality that the author portrayed of what sin can do in a persons life and how that sin affects so many others around them. Above all I loved the message of forgiveness and HOPE that a person can have in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
This was Julie Lessman at her best! Since ISLE OF HOPE left some characters hanging I'm going to assume that we will be returning again to Isle of Hope to resolve some relationships in future installments. I can't wait!

High-Caliber Holiday by Susan Sleeman
Things aren't going too well for Morgan Thorsby. Once an attorney for her father's company, Morgan has put all of that behind her to pursue her real passion of helping others.
Brady Owens is a former marine sniper who has let his negative past define who he is. Currently working with the FRS team, Brady is called in when a gunman has taken Morgan hostage.
Not only has Morgan just been held hostage, once she returns to her apartment she finds that someone has left her a sinister gift while she was away. Brady can't help himself when he sees that Morgan is in danger. He must protect her. But how can he protect her and protect his emotions when there is an obvious attraction between the two?
Brady and the FRS team work hard at protecting Morgan, but as her stalker escalates it seems that they are no closer to discovering who is putting Morgan's life in danger.
Susan Sleeman really knows how to weave a good suspense story that keeps the reader turning the pages to the very exciting end! With many twists and turns she manages to keep the reader guessing as to who the bad guy is. I really liked Brady and Morgan's story. Complete opposites as far as their upbringing, but with similar insecurities because of those upbringings. I really like how the author uses faith in her books to help a character overcome an insecurity or tragedy. High-Caliber Holiday is a perfect suspense story any time of year, but if you like to have a theme for your holiday reading then check this one out for Christmas!

Thou Art With Me by Debbie Viguie
Cindy and Jeremiah are going undercover to a marriage retreat. Mark's captain has ordered Mark to get Cindy and Jeremiah to investigate the disappearance of one of the captains friends.
Cindy enlists the help of one of her co-workers to help her shop for a new wardrobe for the trip. Can you take a wild guess as to who that friend is? I was quite surprised!
Cindy's frustration with Jeremiah over not being able to shout to the world about their relationship comes out during counseling. They know they love each other, and they know they are in a relationship, but Jeremiah is not used to letting the world see who he is. Not only are they trying to find a missing man, but they are also discovering things about themselves as individuals and as a couple. Will they be able to work things out or will this assignment prove to be the end of their relationship?
As you can see from my reviews I have devoured these last 3 books in this series. I am now caught up in the series with book 12 coming out tomorrow! I can't wait to see what happens in that one! Of course this one was just as exciting and filled with not just the suspense of the case, but also with Cindy and Jeremiah exploring their feelings for each other and learning how to express those feelings. The mystery was good, but I have to say the couple angle has captured my attention far more than the mysteries. I think there are still many things that are going to come in between this relationship with the main one being that both Cindy and Jeremiah come from such different religious backgrounds. How can a rabbi and a Christian manage to work things out and how will their respective congregations receive the news of their relationship? It will be interesting to see what happens as book 12 comes out tomorrow...oh, I said that already. Can you tell I'm excited about it? I'm definitely a fan of the series and these are definitely going to have a spot on my upcoming Top 15 of 2015!

I Will Fear No Evil by Debbie Viguie
The perfect book for Halloween coming up! I didn't even think of that as I opened it up...and finished it in one day!
Jeremiah is having a hard time getting back to "normal" after his and Cindy's trip to Israel. Cindy feels him pulling away, but he refuses to talk about what happened while they were there.
Mark calls Jeremiah and Cindy in on a murder case when a young girl is found in a basement. Looking like an occult killing the trio are creeped out by the whole experience and Cindy ends up in the hospital from an allergic reaction to something in the basement.
In the meantime First Shepherd church is getting ready for their first haunted house scare-fest. The youth pastor, fondly called "Wildman", Dave is in his element. Beyond excited to be able to reach out to many of the youth in town, he's come up with a haunted house maze filled with Biblical scenes that are sure to scare the pants off of everyone going through.
Add in an FBI agent that has worked these occult cases before and you have a story filled with murder, mayhem and the supernatural guaranteed to cause you a few restless hours in the middle of the night!
Normally I avoid anything that delves into the realm of satanism or witchcraft. Thankfully I WILL FEAR NO EVIL doesn't delve too far, although it is pretty creepy. I'm still a bit confused as to Trina's "real" job as the FBI agent. Seems she had some abilities to communicate with the supernatural, but it never really came out in the book. I wonder if her character will be developed in future books or if that is all we get to glimpse of her. There was a touching scene between Mark and Jeremiah that I really liked. It is now Mark's turn to counsel Jeremiah. There was a bit in the book that I didn't think held true to Traci's character as a strong woman and so I was a bit disappointed in that. Eventually Jeremiah and Cindy are able to have a moment to talk about their feelings that were expressed while in Israel, and there are a few pretty steamy kisses between them. But there are still hurdles in that relationship I'm afraid. I had the luxury of being able to read this in one day, only because I ignored everything else and kept turning those pages! If you are looking for something to get your fright-bone shivering at this time of year then definitely pick up this suspense and enjoy!

The Shadow of Death by Debbie Viguie
I really liked this installment in The Psalm 23 Mysteries! So much excitement and so much danger.
Cindy and Jeremiah are still dancing around their relationship with each other. Of course it would be difficult to solidify since he is a rabbi and Cindy is a protestant. Jeremiah's past is finally going to catch up with him in this book.
The Mossad calls Jeremiah back into service and he must go back to Israel. Cindy refuses to allow him to go without her though. Too many times when they have been separated things go bad and Cindy has a dread that if she is not with him something bad will happen.
Of course bad things happen from the minute they get on the plane! Jeremiah and Cindy once again put on the charade of being married in order to have a good cover of why they are in the country.
Meanwhile back in the States Mark and Traci are having some excitement of their own. Mark is still trying to find out the truth of who his former partner is along with solving a murder of a homeless man on Jeremiah's front lawn. It seems that Mark and Traci and Cindy and Jeremiah are destined to always be in the midst of murder. Mark is hoping for some peace before his and Traci's baby is born, but that is not the case in this situation.
Once Jeremiah and Cindy are in Israel and undercover Jeremiah must reveal who he really is to Cindy. He just knows that the love and admiration he sees in Cindy's eyes will never be the same once she knows the truth and sees him in action. Cindy is made of sterner stuff than that though and she helps Jeremiah every step of the way on this dangerous and revealing trip that threatens both of their lives and the future of their relationship.
I devoured this book so quickly! Action scene after action scene kept me in the mode of "Just one more chapter" before I could move on to my responsibilities. I am much relieved to finally have the truth of who Jeremiah was/is revealed. There are definitely going to be hurdles in their future relationship, but at least the blinders are now off of Cindy and she doesn't have to wonder. I'm definitely in stress-mode now wondering if Jeremiah is going to be able to go back to his "normal" life after delving so deeply into his past nightmares. Looking forward to reading the next installment of the series. Soon, very soon!
