Funny You Should Mention That by Holly Schindler

I really enjoyed this book with several short stories that all blend into one. A glimpse into small-town life with everyone lined up at the local filling station waiting their turn to buy a lottery ticket for the big jackpot. As with any small town, everyone has a story to tell and they are all pretty entertaining. Author Holly Schindler has a way with story-telling that draws the reader in and makes you feel like you are right there in the setting. This is the second book in "The Funny Thing Is" series. Check out my review of the first book Funny Meeting You Here. If you like short, fun and heart-warming reads I suggest you pick up these two books. Honestly you will be glad you did! I guarantee it!

The Heart's Charge by Karen Witemeyer

The second book in the Hanger's Horsemen series. Loved it! I loved the dual love stories! Mark and Kate and Jonah and Eliza. Whew! Mark and Jonah enter just in time to help a desperate woman give birth to a baby girl. The woman has no interest in keeping the baby as she is mourning the loss of her husband and wishes to join him in death. Mark takes the baby to a foundling home and who should open the door but the only woman he ever loved! While taking the baby to a nursing mother Jonah comes across a young boy who mentions that there are "kiddie-snatchers" around. Jonah takes the boy's fears seriously and he and Mark vow to look into what is going on in the nearby town. Both Kate and Eliza are desperate to find a couple of missing children, but they are also desperately determined to keep their hearts from falling for Mark and Jonah. THE HEART'S CHARGE is exciting and also filled with tender moments between both couples. I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to reading further adventures of the Horsemen.

Night Moves by Susan Sleeman

As a child welfare worker Natalie Dunn has seen a lot of things. What she doesn't count on is while caring for 3 children she discovers a serial killer's lair. Getting the children to safety is her top priority no matter even if it costs her her career. Drake Byrd is called to bring a woman and 3 children to a safe house. Expecting to find a matronly case worker with the children he is surprised by the instant attraction he has to the beautiful woman Natalie Dunn turns out to be. But Drake has no time or desire to get involved with anyone at this time. Especially a woman saddled with children! His job is to protect them and that is it, nothing more. So why does being with Natalie cause him to dream of something more?

I loved the excitement of this story! As always author Susan Sleeman hooks you from the very beginning of the book. I couldn't put it down! And seriously y'all, the Byrd brothers!! Drake may just have been the swooniest for me so far! I enjoyed following the leads that Drake and Natalie explored in order to find the serial killer. I loved Drake and Natalie's relationship development. Even though Drake has a hardened and bad-boy attitude he has a soft side that Natalie and the children brought out. And just like Natalie, what's not to love about a man that treats his mom with such tenderness, care and respect? So now that the D-Byrd is finished we move on to E. I look forward to reading Erik's story! Oh, and one more thing. Just like every book I have read in this series, when it was over I felt a little sad. It was like closing the door and saying good-bye to friends. There is always a sadness until you get to see them again. That is why I am looking forward to the next book!
