The Ryn by Serena Chase

I have to confess that I almost missed out on this book! But I also have to confess that I have always loved the cover! I put off getting the book because I thought for sure I wouldn't like the genre(a bit of fantasy). But after glowing reviews from other bloggers I just had to try it. I was NOT disappointed!! I loved it! I recommend it! And most of all I am so glad that I have the next one in the series THE REMEDY on my Kindle and ready to read!

THE RYN is set in a kingdom with Knights(one very handsome one in particular), a Princess(who at first does not know she is a Princess), and Story-Tellers(who can show their stories as they are being told). Add to those: secrets, curses, romance and magic and  you have yourself the perfect story!

Serena knows how to weave a perfect fairytale and keep the reader entranced by her writing and the story being told. I've already read the first page of THE REMEDY and am hooked!

Red Riding Hood by Sarah Blakley-Cartwright

Valerie lives in a village that offers monthly offerings to the Wolf in order to keep the Big Bad Wolf from killing everyone in the village. Unfortunately this month the Wolf has killed Valerie's sister.

Valerie is in love with Peter, a boy that she grew up with. Peter has been gone from the village for years but has returned. Unfortunately Valerie's parents have betrothed her to Henry. Henry's family is well-off and Henry will make a good match for Valerie.

Now that the wolf has invaded the village a priest is called in to help them find out who the wolf is. He informs them that the Wolf is someone among them. A witch hunt ensues with people accusing each other of being the wolf. Valerie's best friend accuses her of being a witch because Valerie can somehow communicate with the Wolf. Valerie is offered as the next sacrifice for the wolf. Can Henry and Peter who both love Valerie unite to save her? And how can Valerie trust anyone around her?

I imagine that almost everyone has heard of this book and movie. I enjoyed both equally since the movie pretty much follows the book. One thing that is a bit frustrating is that the last chapter of the book has to be read online. The author didn't want to give away the ending until after the movie came out I guess.

Under The Green Hill by Laura L. Sullivan

The Morgan children, Rowan, Meg, Priscilla(Silly for short), and James are sent to live with relatives in England to escape the fever in the States. They are looking forward to exploring the house with many rooms and the countryside around them.

What they discover is a land of fairies. Shortly after arriving they find themselves in the midst of preparations for the fairy war. Every 7th year the Midsummer War takes place. The Seelie Court and the Host meet under the Green Hill to do battle. They choose one human from each side to fight to the death. The fairy queen is so beautiful that she has put a spell on Rowan who pledges to fight for her.

Meg is distraught and determined to find a way to save her brother from fighting in the war. What will be the outcome of this most interesting Midsummer War?

I enjoyed this story very much! It was entertaining and exciting to read. Meg's desire to save her brother at any cost was heart-warming. The writing was descriptive and beautiful. And I loved the cover!!

nightlight a parody by The Harvard Lampoon

A parody of course of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. There is some humor in the book, but the laugh-out-loudest line came from the synopsis on the back of the book. I was expecting it to be more humorous than it was. Just an okay read.
