So I totally understand! I will also agree that there were bits that the story did get somewhat boring. But overall it had sweet enough characters to hold my attention! (Also yes, the chapters ARE long, aren't they? I noticed that too.)Karahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09590701834142754842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4389739764142528890.post-66594106337553605842016-02-26T14:23:18.261-06:002016-02-26T14:23:18.261-06:00I've also seen the 1949 version, but it was ve...I've also seen the 1949 version, but it was very long ago. I don't remember it much at all. This is my first time reading the book, so it's all kind of new to me.Jenni Elysehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08403700912436098391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4389739764142528890.post-31859949998509455262016-02-23T13:33:49.112-06:002016-02-23T13:33:49.112-06:00The edition I'm reading has pictures of all th...The edition I'm reading has pictures of all the different actresses who have played the March sisters over the years. It's quite interesting to see; I had no idea Elizabeth Taylor ever played in an adaption. For me, Wynona Rider will always be Jo (probably because that one's the only movie version I've seen).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4389739764142528890.post-6329589445069902112016-02-20T11:14:01.095-06:002016-02-20T11:14:01.095-06:00I think I've seen the 1949 version a long time...I think I've seen the 1949 version a long time ago. I love June Allyson and Peter Lawford. Elizabeth Taylor was in it too? I'd forgotten that.

I agree that LMA focused more on character than setting, and maybe she just didn't want to think about the awful events of the Civil War. You'd think it would have affected the family more though.

Thanks for participating! I'm excited for the watch along as well! I haven't watched the movie for a long time.Kamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13544522373726447697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4389739764142528890.post-17218591941522715722016-02-20T05:06:30.131-06:002016-02-20T05:06:30.131-06:00The 1949 movie is wonderful (abridged like all mov...The 1949 movie is wonderful (abridged like all movies are, of course, but still wonderful. June Allyson is a great Jo). But so is Katherine Hepburn in the earlier movie if you can find that one too.

There was also a tv series in the 70's starring 'Jan Brady' which I recall enjoying at the time as it was less abridged than the movie versions. I seem to remember that the European scenes with Amy were particular good.Bronahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11110584237325026052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4389739764142528890.post-9241516100957262882016-02-19T16:12:11.569-06:002016-02-19T16:12:11.569-06:00I'm horrible at dream casting books as well. I've never seen the 1949 version, but it sounds interesting and I'd like to watch it some time.
Miranda Atchleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02923278667073357060noreply@blogger.com
